Three good things

Three good things happened yesterday. The Trout was outside early in the morning talking to the neighbors when two large, mature bald eagles swept by overhead. The wingspan of the two of them together was unbelievable. It was the closest I have ever been to an eagle. One flew away immediately, and the other one, below, sat for a while. While the photo is definitely of so-so quality, it was very exciting.

I have tried to convince the Trout for the last year or two to get away from the trout stream long enough so that we could enjoy a round of Montana golf. Yesterday was a perfect day. The view from the course was beautiful. Below you see the Anaconda smelter stack and the Pintler's in the background.
Oh yes, I had a lot of fun. We discussed hearing that a golf ball travels further at a higher altitude. I can't say that I proved that to be right, (ha ha), but we did enjoy the day.

And then, the last excitement of the day was when we stopped in Anaconda and it was market day. The Hutterite colony nearby comes into town to sell their goods on Thursday. We bought this loaf of bread below. It was so tall I had to take a picture. Great for sandwiches, toast and I am even imagining French toast and bread pudding as we near the end of it.

  2. What a fun day you had. It must have been a thrill to spot those eagles and I know for sure you enjoyed the market. Used to enjoy golfing, but now that is in the past for me.

  3. The eagle looks majestic. How appropriate! The golf stance looks good to me. The bread: Oh my goodness!
    I'm thinking French toast too!

  4. Looks like you had a great day! The Hutterites sell here at our Farmers Market on Saturdays. Their bread and rolls are the best - I have no idea how they get them so high!

  7. Susan, how exciting to see a bald eagle. I've only seen one - in Marco Island, Florida. Then a round of golf in a gorgeous setting and a fabulous loaf of bread. I would indeed say you had a great day!

  11. It is great that eagles seem to be making a comeback. There are eagles back in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park which is about three miles from where I live, and we are all thrilled to see them. But I haven't been as close as you were. What great photos.

  14. Impressive bread, looks like one piece could be a whole meal. We have alot of eagles in this area, they winter at a warm spring on the Mississippi near Lake City MN, it is fun to watch them on the edge of the ice as they wait for fish to get to close to the surface. They are so majestic, what a special treat to see one so so close.
