I have had people ask me how my cute little celery is doing. So, I took a picture this week after I had planted it in the garden outside for several weeks.
I am certainly not planning on making stuffed celery for any vegetable tray soon, but this has been fun and I do plan on using the leaves in some soup this weekend.
I just made sure that the root bottom was submerged in a small amount of water and kept replenishing it.
I am also pleased to report that my Meyer lemon tree that was planted 2 years ago, is really loaded with blossoms right now. In November, I harvested 13 lemons. Then in January, I saw blossoms starting. Many blossoms are lost to either wind or chance, but I do think we will have more lemons than last year.
This is a really fun thing to watch. As far as your lemon tree I heard that first they sleep, then they creep, then they leap. So if this is year three you show have a bounty. My neighbor has a Eureka lemon tree that feeds the whole neighborhood, and some passersby as well out for their walk.
ReplyDeleteMs. Lemon..thank you for your good news. It is encouraging and would love to share with the neighbors. Thanks for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteI love this celery idea! I will try it with my students. Thanks for sharing this, Susan!
ReplyDeleteLinda, the kids will love it! It is so darn cute!! By the way, being the winner of your book giveaway....the book arrived today and am anxiously looking forward to reading. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to give the celery a try. We're still 3 months away from putting the garden in :( so will wait a while.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun and to think all the celery I pulled from the garden I did not replant! Have a great weekend Diane
ReplyDeleteHow fun and productive too. So glad to know your lemon tree is doing fine. Would be so nice not to have to buy them in the store.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend. It’s nice to be able to get out and visit old friends again.
Sam
Love your celery experiment! Have you ever tried -- successfully -- to grow an avocado?
ReplyDeleteOh, wow. I've never seen a little celery like that! I'm going to have to give that a try. We used to do sweet potatoes when I was a kid. I tried one a few months ago and the thing rotted. Not sure WHAT I did wrong there. LOL! They did make really pretty plants back in the day. LOL! I've done several pineapple tops, but celery is a fun new one!! Thank you, Susan!! I know you will enjoy that fresh celery in your soup and I hope you will share some more lemon photos as they progress. blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteCute little celery! I wonder if I could grow Meyer Lemons here.... I never seem them and have never tasted one. Maybe I can grow my own LOL
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice experiment! I did that once with green onions and wasn't pleased with the result but your celery looks worth a try!
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely idea, Susan! My grandchildren will enjoy it...I remember something you can do with a carrot which is like this, and my mother always had a sweet potato in water on her kitchen sink windowsill, just for the leaves......
ReplyDeleteI would love to be friends with you on facebook, but am not sure of your last name. I'm Kristi Jalics if you want to send a friend request to me.
Love your celery shoot. I never thought to do this.
ReplyDeleteWow, it's growing strong. DIdn't know I can grow celery. (I'm so bad at gardening and hardly any plant survive in my place after a year, except my rosemary. :P Celery leaves on soup sounds wonderful. I think the leaves are very fragrant.
ReplyDeleteYour Meyer Lemon is loaded and I can smell the blossoms.
ReplyDeleteWell, dear friend, you just showed this ole gardener something with the celery. Although I plant Celeriac since celery doesn't do too well in our garden, I can't wait to try that with a celery end, just for the fun of it.
Hope you're having a wonderful weekend.
Must try that as we eat lots of celery. We used to do it with all kinds of things when we wee children.
