A long overdue reunion

Yesterday turned out to be a wonderful day.  One of my bridesmaids that I have not seen since our wedding (that would be 45 years in August) was passing through Tampa yesterday, so The Trout and I made plans to meet her and her husband.

Judy and I have kept in touch with each other for most of those years, but we did misplace each other for a few years until I found her on Facebook about 3 years ago.  After quickly catching up on families, we found a common bond again.  We were roommates in college.  It was a time of the Beatles and the assassination of President Kennedy.   As I get older, I find it amazing that friendships survive...true friendships.

It was great meeting Judy's husband, Bob.  Have seen pictures of him through the years in Christmas letters, but finally making a live connection was so very nice.  A short visit, lunch and now back to corresponding through the computer.  It was a good day, Judy.  Thanks.

  1. Though it sounds so very cliche, friendships are among life's greatest gifts. Glad you enjoyed a reunion with one of yours.

  2. How great to meet up again after all those years. I still keep in touch with my bridesmaid and saw her a couple of years ago for the fist time in many years, she lives in Dallas. Diane

  3. How nice that you got together. Isn't Facebook a good thing? I've reconnected with many people that I thought were unreachable.

    Best,

  4. What a wonderful reunion. I just love FB for finding people in our lives who have become "lost".

  5. How fun Susan. I've (sadly) lost track of almost all of my college friends. Everyone once in a while I find one on Facebook, but not as often as I would like. I never "go home" anymore and that probably has a lot to do with it.

  6. How lovely to renew that connection. My bridesmaids were my two sisters and two cousins - I wanted friends, but my mum pointed out (wisely) that family members would never drift away.

  7. Hi Susan, Lovely to meet up with old friends again. I have kept many of my friends from over a lot of years, both from my school days and from our military days. My sister was one of my bridesmaids and my best friend was as well. She died a few years ago but we kept in touch all those intervening years, although only seeing each other once or twice. We always lived in different parts of the country or world, but we did follow each other's lives. Her husband visited me last summer in Nova Scotia. They were high school sweethearts so I knew him very well. My husband and I also were high school sweethearts. In fact, many of my close friends from those days were also high school sweethearts and all are still married to each other.

  8. What a nice day you had. I didn't realize you were in the Tampa area. I am having lunch with 2 bloggers today in Sarasota. Small world.

I have found many old friends on Facebook. What an amazing world we live in.

  9. Susan, that is the beauty of a real friendship, you just kind of pick up where you left off and the time factor seems to disappear. How delightful that you have reconnected.
