A very favorite treat when we are in Ybor City eating lunch at the Tampa Bay Brewing Company, is their out of this world Wild Mushroom and Goat Cheese Pizza. I had to try to duplicate it last night and it was just about perfect.
I used the recipe for pizza crust from My Carolina Kitchen. When I saw Sam throwing that pizza dough in the air, I knew I would make this recipe. I loved it. So easy to make in the food processor and it turned out perfect.
The only thing I did different than the original pizza, is that I did not have roasted garlic on hand and I just couldn't bring myself to heat the oven for just a head of garlic. Instead, I slowly sauteed mushrooms and added thinly sliced garlic towards the end. Onto this perfect crust I spread the mushrooms and garlic and then added finely chopped rosemary from the garden and topped it with goat cheese and mozzarella on top of that. It was wonderful, but yes, it does need that roasted garlic spread on the crust before the mushrooms.
We had a side salad of arugula with a lemon vinaigrette and a bottle of Les Violettes Cotes de Rhone 2007, from Moillard, Meursault, France. It was $10 or $12 and Wine Spectator rates it an 84. It was perfect, just perfect.
That looks so yummy! Too bad I have soup simmering for tonight.
ReplyDeleteLast night we had (again!) your Vietnamese Caramelized Shrimp. It was soooo good!
Sounds perfect too Susan. I am crazy about anything with goat cheese and add mushrooms? Absolutely. I can't imagine heating the oven to roast one head of garlic either. I wonder if there is an easier way.
ReplyDeleteGlad the pizza crust worked out for you.

This sounds wonderful. I only wish I could convince Nigel to eat goats cheese. There is only two things he does not like, one is peanut butter, which I also do not like, and the other is goat's cheese. Do you think he would notice in a pizza? LOL. Keep well Diane
ReplyDeleteLooks like the perfect Saturday night dinner! I love homemade pizza, so I'll be right over, LOL . . . oh ya, the wine look pretty good too! Have a great evening!

Isn't it nice to find a pizza dough recipe that you really like. This sounds just delicious I could eat a slice or two :)
ReplyDeleteDiane, I can understand you not liking peanut butter. I would compare it to an American trying to Marmite/Vegemite. You really need to grow up with it. As for the goat cheese, I have acquired a great love for it, but it was not always like that. You are certainly in the midst of goat cheese production. Perhaps, in time, a little at a time, Nigel will learn to love it. :) And yes, he would notice if you put the goat cheese in the pizza ha ha
ReplyDeleteThis is a keeper for sure; i have never make pizza dough in the food processor; great idea. Goat cheese must relly make it tasty good.

Sounds like an absolutely perfect meal, Susan. Perfect. I'm going to have to check out the food processor pizza dough, too.
ReplyDeleteOn another subject, if you ever run across Moon Eyes - Lapis Luna 2007 Cabernet, grab it. Had it at dinner one night and I've been on a mission to find it since... no luck locally or, so far, in Dallas. Did find it online, tried to order a case... they don't ship to TX! Drats. It is wonderful; so, if you get a chance, give it a try.

Absolutely delicious looking pizza! I love that you made the dough in the food processor...will have to bookmark it!
ReplyDeleteLooks and sounds like a delicious pizza.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like my kind of dinner, Susan! I love this combination of ingredients on a pizza, YUM! You always have something good!
ReplyDeleteSaw that dough recipe on Sam's blog and copied it...so pleased you tried it and loved it, Susan. I don't make a lot of pizza (kind of pointless for one person) but when the kids are here, they'd love this recipe.
ReplyDeleteSadly, I'm another one who does not like goat cheese. I wish I need since there are more and more dishes offered in restaurants using it. Usually, I ask to have gorgonzola substituted for the goat cheese. Maybe that would work here too :) I have to try Sam's pie crust - it sounded wonderful when I saw her post.
ReplyDeleteYum. This looks very tempting.
ReplyDeleteSusan, Love this pizza. We make pizza just about every Sunday night. I think I fixed my comment issues. Thanks for the heads up.
ReplyDeleteThis looks delicious, Susan. I prefer pizza without heavy tomato sauce and just happen to have some left over goat cheese in the fridge. I can see that the roasted garlic would be an important flavor addition. Can't wait to give this a try.
ReplyDeleteI cannot wait to try this.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous pizza! Any pizza with mushrooms and lots of cheese is fine by me. And I saw Sam's crust recipe and need to try it soon, too~
ReplyDeleteLove it! Sam throws pizza dough? Love that too.

Susan, this looks fabulous!!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny, I've had a yearning for goat cheese pizza recently ~ and here you go and make my thoughts come true. I love the idea of pairing it with mushrooms . . . honestly, it's 7:12am and I would love a slice for breakfast. xoxo
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI will have to check this restaurant out.
This looks and sounds delicious! Love the combination of goat cheese and mushrooms. Superb!!!
